Summary: The Council for Environmental Education (CEE) seeks an experienced and highly motivated administrator and education professional to fill the position of Director, Project WILD. Project WILD is the nation’s largest wildlife education program and is currently sponsored throughout the United States, the District of Columbia, and six countries.
CEE administers Project WILD, Project WILD Aquatic, Flying WILD, WET in the City and Team WET Schools programs at the national level. CEE is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) educational organization that supports a variety of initiatives in environmental education. A Board of Directors governs the policy and direction of CEE.
Background Information: Project WILD is an award-winning, interdisciplinary conservation and environmental education program emphasizing wildlife. The Director of Project WILD reports directly to the Executive Director, and manages a staff of approximately 3 individuals in addition to contractors, interns, and temporary employees. A key function of the Director will be to expand Project WILD program offerings, nurture and support an active state network, coordinate Project WILD Program Committee activities and establish additional partnerships for Project WILD. The Director will be called upon to assist with long range planning efforts and fund development.
Qualifications and Duties: Minimum B.A. or B.S. degree in education, environmental education, curriculum design and development, natural resources, or related field and a minimum of six years related work experience required. Significant administrative, fundraising, budgetary, management and supervision experience is required. Practical work experience associated with the administration of formal curriculum programs and network management will be considered an asset.
The Director of Project WILD is responsible for all aspects of program management including planning, coordination, and implementation of the entire Project WILD program. The Director must be creative, patient, motivated, committed and an out-of-the-box thinker. He or she must be capable of handling the details of the day-to-day operation of a national office. CEE will expect the Director to be familiar with current national trends in environmental education and education reform. The individual selected for the position must be a team player, dedicated to the work of CEE and Project WILD, with a commitment to collaborative and collegial decision-making necessary to successfully work with staff and a wide variety of partners.

CEE Background:CEE is a non-profit 501(c)3 educational organization formed in 1970 by representatives of natural resource and education agencies. CEE's mission is to provide environmental education programs and services that promote stewardship of the environment and further the capacity of learners to make informed decisions. Responsibilities:The Flying WILD Manager will be charged with growing the national City Partner network for the delivery of Flying WILD. This will involve making initial contacts, processing written agreements, supervising contractors, managing grants, promoting the program at national conventions, developing and maintaining written publications, and strategic planning. The Manager will work with a wide variety of federal, state, local, and non-governmental organizations that support bird conservation and education. The Manager will also interface with the emerging Bird Education Network and will have responsibilities for advancing bird education nationally. Flying WILD communications and the Flying WILD annual meeting will be planned, managed and implemented by the Flying WILD Manager. Moderate travel is required.
Qualifications:A minimum of three years in program administration, preferably at the state or national level is required. Excellent writing skills (writing samples will be requested) and strong communication skills are essential to success in the position. Highly qualified candidates will have entrepreneurial know-how, grant management experience, keen organizational skills, familiarity with the bird education community, knowledge of education reform, and the ability to multi-task and set priorities within a large variety of program initiatives. Experience working with urban audiences is a plus, as is experience in writing funding proposals.
B.A. or B.S. degree in education, environmental education, curriculum and instruction, natural resources or related field is required.

Pay: Starting pay will be from $33,919 up to $53,841 annually depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A six month probationary period is required. This position is in Pay Schedule/Range 07-04, and is in the Wisconsin Professional Employees Council Bargaining Unit.
Job Duties: This position serves as the Bureau of Science Services’ communications manager responsible for developing and directing a comprehensive science communications program, including print and web-based publishing, multi-disciplinary information synthesis projects, and coordinated technology transfer efforts. SALARY RANGE: Annually $40,140 to $70,812. Beginning salary will be $40,140 to $54,888 depending on qualifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinates communication and tracking of key conservation messages for Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) using public relation strategies. Coordinates with Outreach Programs staff (magazine, digital media, publications), media specialists, marketing specialist and other MDC staff to ensure alignment of messages across a variety of communication/media channels. Works to establish the agency as a source of information and services related to sustaining healthy forests, fish, and wildlife as well as nature-based recreation in Missouri. Writes, pitches and places stories in variety of media (broadcast, print, web, etc.). Plans events and other public outreach activities that enhance awareness of the Missouri Department of Conservation and its programs in particular as well as broader conservation values. Provides backup in writing news releases in news services coordinator's absence. Fields media inquiries and directs interview requests to appropriate staff members. Writes questions and answers to assist agency staff in addressing inquiries related to emerging issues. Coordinates the No More Trash! anti-litter campaign in collaboration with the Missouri Department of Transportation. Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism/Communications with emphasis in Public Relations or closely-related fields and at least four (4) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
